"In the Moonlight A Worm..." - http://www.haiku.insouthsea.co.uk/index.htm

This is a simple but straightforward site that introduces a haiku to both teachers and students for lesson ideas and self-study respectively. It is extremely easy to navigate around this neat and organized site. It gives a quick but comprehensive introduction to the history of haiku writing and the differences between traditional Japanese haikus and Western ones (good for quick background knowledge!)

The site provides downloadable lesson plans and photocopiable poem sheets for teachers, besides various tips to take note of. For students, there is a step-by-step process to writing a haiku but what stands out for me is how the site prompts critical thinking and self-reflection on the students' part through questions that appear at intervals during the writing process that allows them to improve their haiku along the way. Another good point about the site is that it provides both traditional Japanese haiku (translated into English) as well as those written by Western writers which makes for an easy selection of haikus for 'compare and contrast' lessons. The site is versatile in that it can be used as both a teacher's resource or as a self-directed learning site for students.
