[2] Drama Resource

URL: http://dramaresource.com/strategies

This website is specifically designed for the teaching of drama, and includes a host of interactive activities pertaining to that field. Nonetheless, I think some of the strategies could be used as fun and interactive methods for the teaching of prose or poetry as well, especially for more kinesthetic learners or to prevent students from getting bored. Getting students to form a “conscience alley”, for instance, could spur students on to think more deeply about what motivates specific characters, and about overarching themes and issues in a play/novel. Hot seating, similarly, would be effective as a tool to teach characterisation, since it creates opportunities for students to get into the shoes of specific characters. Having students create a soundscape using their voices and “body percussion” based on texts could also be an interactive way of getting them to engage with specific imagery, mood, setting in a poem or a novel (though there is the risk of rowdiness). There are many other similar strategies listed, which could be either adapted to teach other literary genres like prose and poetry, or else be directly employed in drama classes/theatre workshops.

  1. I also found this website during my google search and I love the website interface (it is easy to navigate). I find the strategies offered are interesting and likely to capture students' attention and interest. My personal favourite is "Story-Telling" and the use of word tennis to develop not only oral skills, but also on coherence of thoughts as well as some basics on building the plot for a story.

  2. I think this would be a helpful website for teachers teaching drama. It talks about drama techniques such as hot-seating. Hot-seating is used for developing a role in the drama lesson or analysing a play post-performance. It is useful for developing questioning skills among students.

  3. I find the strategies in this website interesting. I think that students will enjoy drama classes if they are being offered new ways of learning. Most of the strategies are useful in helping students to better understand the characters and plot of the drama. For example, forum theatre allows students to ask questions about the play. However, we need to have a good management of the class before we can carry out these activities as it can end up being chaotic as students need to move around and participate extensively in order for them to learn more.
