Contextual Knowledge for Literature Teachers

URL: http://victorianresearch.org/teaching.html

This site does not boast of lesson plans or interactive interfaces. It has a list of essays that facilitates easy reference to a database of contextual information about the texts that we may teach in future. An important point to note is that the site focuses on the Victorian period and prior movements' influences in shaping the Victorian era, so its only relevant to the teaching of certain texts. However, I find that knowledge of the Victorian period would help our understanding of the later literary works of the Twentieth Century. If anything, this site may fortify our socio-cultural knowledge of the era and we can 'wow' our students if we are asked questions that require us to launch into an impromptu historical, social, cultural and literary development of the period.

That said, this site is not very well maintained and there are dead links in the list. The active links, however, are pretty good elaborations of the topic it says it would touch on.
